Bay Beach Cleans are Back!
Morecambe Bay’s dramatic coastline is something that we all love and want to protect. Over the last 15 years, Morecambe Bay Partnership has worked with countless, dedicated volunteers to clean up our beaches. Since 2003, more than 50 tonnes of rubbish has been collected and removed from the Bay – the equivalent of four double decker buses! The Potts Corner group, who collected 807kgs in one day, hold the record for the most amount of rubbish collected in 2018!
If you’re interested in doing your bit for the Bay, why not come along to one of our weekend beach cleans? We’re also looking for new coordinators for the Silverdale and Arnside area, so if you’re looking for a worthy cause to get involved with let us know!
If you’ve never been to a beach clean before, don’t fret! Equipment (pickers, gloves, bags) is provided at every event, so all you need to do is dress for the weather and wear some sturdy shoes. Children are always welcome but under-18s do need to be accompanied by and adult. It’s also a great way to meet new people, especially if you’ve just moved to the area or looking to make some new, like-minded friends.
There are regular beach cleans from March to October at:
- Morecambe Lodge
- Hest Bank
- Sunderland Point
- Middleton Towers
- Potts Corner
All events begin at 10am and last 1.5 – 2 hours. For more information, visit our events page or contact Hannah Barnes, our Beach Care Officer (Hannah@morecambebay.org.uk).
